A natural leavening agent used in baking. Our baking powder is aluminium-free and naturally free from gluten - made from bicarbonate of soda (baking soda), cream of tartar and organic rice flour.
Self-raising flour can be made from mixing plain flour with baking powder.
Conventional modern baking powders may taste metallic – because they are. This product will not, creme of tartar was historically always used in baking powder but manufacturers looked for cheaper, alternative acids which is how aluminium came to be added. The version we stock is simply going back to the good old original formula.
